جرت العادة عند علمائنا الأوائل في الاتِّساع في بحث الإمامة؛ لما تمثِّله من نقطة افتراق بين مذهب الإماميَّة وغيرها من المذاهب، وقد حاول علماؤنا رضوان الله تعالى عليهم إثبات الإمامة بطرقٍ مختلفة، ومن هؤلاء الأعلام يبرز فخر المحقِّقين كأهمِّ جهبذٍ من علمائنا الأجلَّاء في التوسُّع في هذا المبحث الفارق، وقد أثبت الإمامة بالنصِّ، وهو ما اتَّفق معه كلُّ علماء الإماميَّة، وبالمعجز الذي اتَّفق معه العلماء الأوائل، لكنَّه توسَّع في سرد المعجزات، والتي تدلُّ عنده على صدق الدعوى، ومنها تثبت إمامة الأئمَّة، بوصف المعجزة كشاهدٍ على صدق ادِّعاء هذا المنصب، وقد ثبتت تلك المعاجز بالتواتر المنقول، أو المشاهد، أو الذي ينقله بسنده رضوان الله تعالى عليه، وعلى هذا الأساس كان مدار البحث.
