مثَّلت مدينة الحِلَّة الزعامة الفكريَّة للمذهب الاثنى عشريّ لأكثر من ثلاثة قرون من الزمان في العصور الإسلاميَّة الوسيطة، اشتهر خلالها علماء كُثر، إلَّا أنَّ نخبة من أولئك العلماء كان لهم الصدارة والريادة، ومنهم فخر المحقِّقين محمَّد بن العلَّامة الحِلِّيّ، وممَّا زاد اسمه سطوعًا هو تتلمذه على والده العلَّامة الحِلِّيّ الذي أولاه اهتمامًا خاصًّا حتَّى نال مرتبة الاجتهاد في عمرٍ مبكِّرٍ، وأصبح مقصدًا لطلَّاب العلم الحِلِّيِّين وغير الحِلِّيِّين، وكان أبوه قد أعطاه مساحة كافية للبروز والنبوغ الفكريّ، إذ رافق والده في أغلب رحلاته العلميَّة، وكان يتنقَّل معه، حتَّى كان له نصيب وجهد علميّ كبير في المدرسة السيَّارة التي تتنقَّل من مكانٍ لآخر مُرافِقة جيش السلطان المغوليّ محمَّد خدابنده.
ومنح فخر المحقِّقين لتلامذته إجازات علميَّة في مدن مختلفة، أيَّام والده وبعد مماته، وتدلُّ المدن المتعدِّدة التي منح فيها تلامذته إجازاتاهم على كثرة حِلِّه وترحاله، في مدن عراقيَّة وغير عراقيَّة، كذلك أسماء تلامذته وانتماءاتهم المناطقيَّة، تؤشَّر إقبال طلاب العلم للتتلمذ عليه من أصقاع وجهات مختلفة، وإنَّ ما تمَّ تثبيته في هذا البحث من أسماء لطلَّاب نهلوا العلم عنه يدلُّ دلالةً واضحةً على نبوغه العلميّ، وما توافدهم عليه من المناطق القريبة والبعيدة إلَّا دليل ذلك.
والمتابع لكتب تراجم الرجال يجد أنَّ لفخر المحقِّقين طلَّاب حِلِّيِّين وغير حِلِّيِّين، وعراقيِّين وغير عراقيِّين، أخذوا عنه داخل الحِلَّة أو خارجها، وقد ذكرت تلك الكتب التي ترجمت لتلامذته مدى تأثيره فيهم علميًّا، وسمة التواضع التي اتَّسم بها، ويُستدلُّ على تلك السمة من خلال انتقائه لكلمات الاحترام والتقدير لتلامذته الذين شاطروه ذلك، وأثنوا على ما قدَّمه إليهم.

The city of Hilla represented the intellectual leadership of the Imami school of thought for more than three centuries in the medieval Islamic era, during which many scholars became famous, but a group of those scholars had the forefront and leadership, among them Fakhr Al-Muhaqiqin Muhammad bin Al-Allama Al-Hilli, and what made his name brighter is that he was a student of his father Allamah Al-Hilli, who paid special attention to him until he attained the rank of ijtihad at an early age, and became a destination for both religious and non-literate students of knowledge. And his father had given him enough space for prominence and intellectual brilliance, as he accompanied his father on most of his scientific trips, and he used to move with him until he had a share and a great scientific effort in the moveable school that moved from one place to another accompanying the army of the Mughal Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh.
Fakhr Al-Muhaqiqin granted his students scientific licenses in Different cities, during the days of his father and after his death, and the multiple cities in which his students granted their possessions indicate his frequent travels and travels, in Iraqi and non-Iraqi cities. The names of students who gained knowledge from him clearly indicate his scientific genius, and the influx of them from near and far regions is only evidence of that.
The follower of the biographies of men finds that Fakhr
Al-Muhaqiqin is students from Hilla and elsewhere, Iraqis and non-Iraqis who studied on him inside or outside Hilla.Those books that were translated for his students mentioned the extent of his influence on them scientifically and the characteristic of humility that characterized him. This feature is inferred by his selection of words of respect and appreciation to his students who shared that and praised what he presented to them.
